Welcome to The Hunslet Club

Based in South Leeds, The Hunslet Club has been helping young people achieve their full potential for over 80 years. With a membership exceeding 4,000 young people and approximately 84,000 annual visits, we are proud to be one of the country's largest youth organisations.

We operate seven days a week, with weekday sessions from 4-9 PM, weekend sessions on a Saturday, and match fixtures all day on Saturday and Sunday. We deliver over 110 sessions each week with an average daily attendance of 250 people.

Our Activities

Our activities include football, boxing, gymnastics, rugby, dance styles (including pom, hip-hop, ballet, and tap), and adult fitness classes with a 16+ fitness suite. We serve ages 18 months to 25 years, offering membership and senior youth club access at no cost.

Most activities are priced at just £1.50 or are completely free - a commitment we've maintained for over 20 years, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation.

Alternative Education

Beyond recreational activities, we provide vocational courses in sports, engineering, hair, beauty, and catering to 120 students weekly from various Leeds schools. These programmes target young people who struggle to learn in mainstream educational settings, offering them pathways to qualifications and employment.

Our History

The Hunslet Club was founded in 1940 by Dr. John Wyllie, a local GP who saw the need to support young people during the difficult years of World War II. Originally known as "The Hunslet Boys Club", we have since expanded to welcome everyone.

A Safe Haven

At our core, The Hunslet Club is a community hub and safe space for young people in South Leeds. We serve some of the most economically deprived areas, providing a place where young people can build confidence, develop skills, make friends, and discover their potential.

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. That's been our mission for over 80 years, and it will continue to guide everything we do.

Our Values

At The Hunslet Club, everything we do is guided by our core values, which shape our programmes, our coaching, and our community impact.

Create Opportunities

We believe every child and young person should have the chance to explore, learn, and achieve. From sports and dance to arts and education, we provide opportunities for children to discover new talents, try new activities, and reach their potential – whether for fun, skill development, or competitive pathways.

Inclusive

Our programmes are open to all, with no barriers to participation. We ensure sessions are accessible, affordable, and welcoming, creating a safe and supportive environment where every child feels valued and can thrive.

Passionate

We are driven by a love of sport, arts, and community. Our experienced coaches and staff are passionate about helping children build confidence, resilience, and skills, inspiring them to achieve and enjoy every session.

Understanding

We recognise that every child is unique, and we take the time to listen, support, and adapt. Whether a child is just starting out, developing their skills, or aiming to compete, our team provides guidance, encouragement, and care every step of the way.

Together, these values ensure The Hunslet Club remains a place where children can be active, creative, and empowered, building lifelong skills and friendships in a supportive community.
